Robert Carrington “Bobby” Dews, Sr Hattiesburg, MS Obituary:In Loving Memory Of Robert Carrington
Robert Carrington “Bobby” Dews Sr., 75, a pillar of the Hattiesburg community, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A man of immense strength, he valiantly faced health challenges for over two decades with characteristic determination.
Born August 10, 1950, Bobby was a true son of Hattiesburg. A 1968 Hattiesburg High graduate, his passion for athletics led him to The University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration, played basketball, and forged lifelong bonds in Kappa Sigma Fraternity—becoming a devoted Parrot Head thanks to brother Jimmy Buffett.

He built a forty-year career at the family’s C.L. Dews and Sons Foundry, retiring as Vice President in 2020. His business success was rooted in integrity, hard work, and genuine care for people.
Bobby’s heart beat for Southern Miss. A constant presence at games, his final outing celebrated a Golden Eagle basketball victory with his children. He served USM tirelessly through the Alumni Association, Athletic Foundation, and School of Engineering Technology Advisory Committee.
His devotion extended to his community, chairing the Mississippi Manufacturers Association and serving on the Hattiesburg Convention Center board, all while being a faithful deacon at First Presbyterian Church.
Above all, Bobby cherished his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patty; son Robert Jr. (Rachel); daughter Lucy (Daniel); and his greatest joy—five grandchildren who knew him as “Chief.”
Services will be at First Presbyterian Church on February 24, 2026. The family suggests memorials to the church or the USM Athletic Foundation, honoring a life lived with unwavering loyalty, principle, and love.
