FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver killed in a multi-vehicle collision last week in Ridgeway.
The deceased is 76-year-old Jerrold Freeman, authorities confirmed. Freeman was the restrained driver of an SUV involved in the five-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 21 South this past Friday.
According to the coroner’s report, emergency personnel responded to the scene but Freeman was pronounced deceased upon their arrival. The exact circumstances leading to the collision remain under investigation by local authorities.

An autopsy will be performed by Newberry Pathology to determine Freeman’s official cause of death. The procedure is standard in such investigations.
The crash, which involved multiple vehicles, prompted a significant emergency response and temporarily disrupted traffic along the highway corridor. Further details regarding other potential injuries or the cause of the initial collision have not yet been released by investigating law enforcement agencies.
