It is with profound sadness that Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda announces the peaceful passing of our beloved pastor and friend, Father Jerry Kaywell. He died in his sleep, leaving a community heartbroken yet comforted by the gentle nature of his departure.
Father Jerry often reflected that the veil between heaven and earth is very thin. Early this morning, he passed through that veil to join the God he loved with his whole being and all the saints he so cherished throughout his life and ministry. His sudden passing leaves our hearts heavy beyond words, as our entire faith community enters a period of deep mourning.
For years, Father Jerry was more than a priest; he was a shepherd whose kindness, wisdom, and steady faith formed the cornerstone of our parish family. His homilies made scripture resonate in daily life, his door was always open for counsel or comfort, and his presence was a constant reminder of God’s enduring grace. He had a unique gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, fostering a spirit of true community at Sacred Heart.
While we grieve this immense loss, we also cling to the hope of the resurrection he preached so faithfully. We pray now for the happy repose of his soul, and in a turn of prayer he would surely appreciate, we ask him to intercede for us with the God and saints he now joyfully meets face-to-face.
