The Hudson Recreation family is grappling with an unexpected and heartbreaking loss following the passing of Owen Surprenant, a young man who was truly one of our own. His journey through our programs, from a participant to a devoted coach, makes this loss profoundly personal for our entire community.
Owen’s roots in Hudson Rec ran deep. He grew up on our fields and courts, playing recreational soccer and basketball throughout his childhood. He was part of the fabric of our organization, embodying the spirit of community sports. For us, there is no greater reward than watching children blossom in our programs and then return as adults to give back. Owen was living that beautiful cycle.
He was currently coaching rec basketball, stepping into the role of a positive role model for a new generation of players. His commitment to guiding young athletes with the same support he once received spoke volumes about his character. Owen’s passing leaves a void not only on the sidelines but in the hearts of all who knew him—from his fellow coaches and players to the families who watched him grow.
We extend our deepest condolences to Owen’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his life. In this time of immense sorrow, we remember his contributions and the positive impact he made.
